How to Draw a Buffalo Running
Draw a buffalo running in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big low head.
Step 1: Big low head
Low on the left draw a big head: wide and round at the top, with a smaller round nose end.
Tip The head hangs low. Leave lots of room above and on the right.
Step 2: Eye and nose
Draw 1 big eye. From the nose top curve a line down to the chin. Add a nostril and smile.
Tip Give the eye a black dot and a tiny white shine. We see the side, so only 1 eye shows.
Step 3: Shaggy hair and beard
On top of the head draw a fluffy mop of hair. Under the chin hang a fluffy beard.
Tip Round soft bumps, like a cloud.
Step 4: Two short horns
From the hair draw a short horn curving up to a point. Peek a second horn behind. Add 1 ear.
Tip Each horn is fat at the bottom and curves in at the tip.
Step 5: Big hump
Start behind the head. Go up over a big hump, slope down the back, and stop round the bottom.
Tip The hump is the tallest part, much higher than the head.
Step 6: Reaching front leg
From the head draw the chest, then a slim leg reaching forward to a hoof and back to the body.
Tip The leg bends at the knee and gets thinner.
Step 7: Tummy and back leg
From the front leg draw the tummy. Then a leg kicking back to a hoof, up to the bottom.
Tip The back leg is fat at the top and bends half way down.
Step 8: Shaggy front
Start on the back behind the hump. Draw 5 fur bumps down to the tummy.
Tip The front half of a buffalo is shaggy. The back half is smooth.
Step 9: Far legs
Under the tummy draw 2 more slim legs peeking out. Draw a ground line under the back hooves.
Tip The front one is bent at the knee. Only draw the parts you can see.
Step 10: Split hooves
Draw a line across the end of each leg to make 4 hooves. Split each hoof with 1 short line.
Step 11: Tail and dust
From the bottom draw a thin tail held up, with a fluffy tuft. Add 1 dust puff behind the hooves.
Step 12: Grey and sand
Colour the 2 horns and the 4 hooves grey. Colour the dust puff sand.
Step 13: Tan back half
Colour the nose end, the smooth back half, the 2 back legs and the thin tail tan.
Step 14: Brown shaggy front
Colour the head, hair, beard, ear, shaggy front, front legs and tail tuft brown. Leave the eye white.
