How to Draw a Sleeping Puppy

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a sleeping puppy in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big soft head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Big soft head

Low on the left draw a big soft head, wider than tall, with round cheeks.

Tip Leave room on the right for the sleepy body.

  2. Step 2: Floppy ears

From each top corner of the head draw a long floppy ear hanging down past the cheek.

Tip Rub out the head line inside each ear.

  3. Step 3: Closed eyes

Across the middle of the head draw 2 closed eyes, each a little U.

Tip Closed eyes show the puppy is fast asleep.

  4. Step 4: Snout and nose

Under the eyes draw a wide round snout. Sit a black oval nose on top and add a smile.

  5. Step 5: Front paws

Under the chin draw 2 round paws side by side on the ground. Add 2 toe lines each.

Tip The sleepy head rests on the front paws.

  6. Step 6: Sleepy body

Start behind the right ear. Draw a long hill over to a round bottom, then flat along the ground.

  7. Step 7: Back leg

On the ground draw a long flat foot with 2 toe lines. Join it to the back with 1 curve.

Tip The curve is the back leg, folded up.

  8. Step 8: Other back paw

In front of that foot draw 1 more small paw peeking out. Add 2 toe lines.

Tip Now you can count all 4 paws.

  9. Step 9: Little tail

Start on the round bottom. Draw a short tail curving up to a thin round tip, and back.

  10. Step 10: Ground and zzz

Draw a ground line under the puppy. Above the back draw 3 little z's, each one a bit bigger.

  11. Step 11: Cream snout

Colour the snout cream, around the black nose.

  12. Step 12: Light brown fur

Colour the head, body, 4 paws and tail light brown, around the snout.

Tip Leave the 2 ears for the next colour.

  13. Step 13: Brown ears

Colour the 2 floppy ears brown.

Tip Shh, your puppy is fast asleep!
