How to Draw a Puppy

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a puppy in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top, draw a big soft egg for the head, a little wider than tall, with fat round cheeks.

Tip Puppies have big heads: more than half of the whole puppy.

  2. Step 2: Long floppy ears

Start high on the head. Draw a long floppy ear hanging down and stop on the cheek. Do both sides.

  3. Step 3: Eyes and patch

Across the head's middle, draw 2 big eyes with dots and shines. Add an egg patch around the right eye.

  4. Step 4: Snout and nose

Under the eyes, draw a wide oval snout. Sit a rounded triangle nose on top and colour it black.

  5. Step 5: Smile and tongue

From the nose point, draw a short line down to a little w smile. Hang a U tongue from it.

  6. Step 6: The body

Start under each ear. Curve down for the body and stop near the bottom. Join the ends underneath.

Tip The body is small: only a little wider than the head.

  7. Step 7: A ball

At the bottom left, draw a round ball as big as a paw. Add one curved line across it.

  8. Step 8: Front legs

From the chin, draw 2 legs side by side down to round paws. Add 2 toe lines on each paw.

Tip The chest is a little U between the tops of the legs.

  9. Step 9: Back paws and ground

At each bottom corner, draw a hill paw with 2 toes. Add a ground line under the ball and paws.

  10. Step 10: Fat tail

Start low on the right side. Draw a fat tail up to a round tip and back to the side.

Tip Rub out the body line between the tail's two ends.

  11. Step 11: Cream fur, white snout

Colour the head, body, legs, paws and tail cream, around the patch and tongue. Leave the eyes and snout white.

  12. Step 12: Ginger ears and patch

Colour the 2 floppy ears and the eye patch ginger.

  13. Step 13: Pink tongue, red ball

Colour the tongue pink and the ball red.
