How to Draw a Zigzag

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a zigzag in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the square.

Print

  1. Step 1: The square

In the middle draw a big square with straight sides and soft corners, nearly as big as your page.

Tip A zigzag goes sharply up and down, like the teeth of a saw.

  2. Step 2: The first zigzag

Start high on the left edge. Zigzag across, 4 points up, like saw teeth, stopping on the right edge.

Tip Keep all the points the same size.

  3. Step 3: The second zigzag

Under it draw a second zigzag just the same, from the left edge across to the right. They never touch.

  4. Step 4: The middle zigzag

Draw a third zigzag across the middle of the square. Start on the left edge and stop on the right.

  5. Step 5: Two more zigzags

Draw 2 more zigzags under it, evenly spaced, each from the left edge across to the right. That makes 5.

  6. Step 6: Sparkles

Draw 4 sparkle stars off the corners of the square.

  7. Step 7: Cream bands

Go over your lines, then colour the top and bottom bands cream.

  8. Step 8: Yellow sparkles

    Colour the 4 sparkles yellow.

  9. Step 9: Yellow bands

Between the zigzags there are 4 bands. Colour the second and the fourth yellow.

  10. Step 10: Blue bands

Colour the other 2 bands blue, so blue and yellow take turns. Your zigzag pattern is done!
