How to Draw a Rectangular Pyramid
Draw a rectangular pyramid in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: front edge.
Step 1: Front edge
Start low on the left. Draw a long straight line and stop near the right. This is the base's front.
Tip Use a ruler if you like.
Step 2: Side edge
From the right end draw a shorter line slanting up to the right. Stop about halfway across.
Step 3: Hidden side edge
From the left end draw a dashed line slanting up the same way, just as long.
Tip Dashed lines show edges hidden behind the pyramid.
Step 4: Hidden back edge
Join the 2 slanted ends with a long dashed line. Now the base is a flat rectangle.
Tip Keep it level, like the front edge.
Step 5: Find the middle
Lightly draw an X from corner to corner of the base. The cross marks the middle.
Step 6: Find the top
From the cross draw a light line straight up, high above the base. Its top end is the point.
Tip A tall line makes a tall, pointy pyramid.
Step 7: Front face
From the point draw 2 straight lines down to the ends of the front edge.
Step 8: Side face
From the point draw a straight line down to the far right corner.
Tip Now you can see 2 faces, so the pyramid looks solid.
Step 9: Last hidden edge
Draw a dashed line from the point to the last corner. Rub out your light guide lines.
Step 10: Yellow front face
Go over your lines. Colour the big front face yellow.
Step 11: Orange side face
Colour the side face ginger orange, a little darker, so it looks solid. Your rectangular pyramid is done!
