How to Draw a Ziggurat

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a ziggurat in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: ground and bottom step.

Print

  1. Step 1: Ground and bottom step

Draw a low ground line. Start on it at the left, draw a long flat step, stop at the right.

Tip A ziggurat is a stack of flat steps, each smaller than the one below.

  2. Step 2: The middle step

Start on the bottom step, in from the left. Draw a smaller step on top, stopping at the right.

  3. Step 3: The top step

Start on the middle step, in from the left. Draw a smaller step again, stopping at the right.

  4. Step 4: The temple

Start on the top step. Draw a small temple box up, across and back down, stopping on the step.

  5. Step 5: The staircase

From the temple, draw 2 stair lines spreading apart down to the ground. Rub out the lines between them.

  6. Step 6: The sun

In the top left corner, draw a round sun as big as a plum, with 8 short rays around it.

  7. Step 7: Stairs and doorway

Draw short flat lines across the staircase, evenly spaced, one for each stair. On the temple, draw a small arched doorway.

  8. Step 8: Sandy steps

Colour the stairs, bottom and top steps sand. Colour the middle step and temple tan, around the stairs and door.

  9. Step 9: Yellow sun

    Colour the sun yellow.

  10. Step 10: Dark doorway

Colour the little doorway brown. Go over all your lines and your ziggurat is done!
