How to Draw a Helter Skelter

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a helter skelter in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the tall tower.

Print

  1. Step 1: The tall tower

Draw a tall tower with sides that lean in, right of the middle. Draw a ground line under it.

Tip Leave room on the left for the end of the slide.

  2. Step 2: Roof and flag

On top draw a pointed roof like a party hat. Add a short pole and a flag on its tip.

  3. Step 3: Two slide bands

Draw 2 slanted bands. Each starts on the tower's right edge and ends lower, poking out past the left edge.

Tip Give the left ends a round tip. Rub out the tower's left edge inside each band.

  4. Step 4: The slide's end

Draw a third band lower down. Carry it on past the left edge and curve it down to the ground.

Tip Rub out the tower's left edge inside it. The slide winds round the tower, so you see it 3 times.

  5. Step 5: The slide's lip

Inside each band draw a line close to its top edge. Start and stop on the band's ends.

Tip The lip is the low wall that keeps riders in.

  6. Step 6: The door

At the foot of the tower draw a little door with a round top.

  7. Step 7: Stripes

Draw 4 lines down the tower from the roof to the ground. Hop over the slide each time.

  8. Step 8: The mat

On the flat end of the slide draw a long low mat with a curled-up front, peeking over the edge.

Tip Riders sit on a mat to slide fast.

  9. Step 9: A rider's head

Behind the mat draw a round head peeking over it. Add 2 dot eyes and a smile.

  10. Step 10: Hair

Draw hair over the top of the head, with a fringe just above the eyes.

  11. Step 11: Arms in the air

Beside the head draw 2 arms coming up from behind the mat, bent a little, with mitten hands.

Tip Leave a gap between each arm and the head.

  12. Step 12: Peach and yellow

Colour the face and arms peach. Colour the 3 slide bands and the flag yellow.

  13. Step 13: Red and blue

Colour 2 tower stripes red and leave 3 white. Colour the roof and the door blue.

  14. Step 14: Brown hair and mat

Colour the hair and the mat brown. Go over your lines and whoosh, down you go!
