How to Draw a Yarrow
Draw a yarrow in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the stem.
Step 1: The stem
Start at the bottom middle. Draw a thin stem of 2 lines up to the middle of your paper.
Step 2: Five thin stalks
Start at the top of the stem. Fan 5 thin stalks up and out, and stop a hand higher.
Tip The stalks spread like the ribs of an umbrella.
Step 3: Front flowers
On the end of each stalk draw a small flower with 5 round petals, side by side.
Tip Keep the flowers small, with tiny gaps between them.
Step 4: Back flowers
Draw 4 more flowers behind them, peeking up over the gaps, so the bunch is flat on top.
Tip Yarrow holds lots of tiny flowers together in one flat bunch.
Step 5: Flower middles
Draw a small circle in the middle of all 9 flowers.
Step 6: Low feathery leaves
Low on the stem draw a long feathery leaf each side, with soft bumpy edges and a middle line.
Tip Yarrow leaves are soft and feathery, a bit like a fern.
Step 7: Small top leaves
Higher up the stem draw a smaller feathery leaf on each side, with its middle line.
Step 8: Ground and grass
Start near the left edge. Draw a ground line through the stem's foot to the right edge. Add grass.
Step 9: White petals
Go over your lines. Colour all the petals with a white crayon, so they stand out.
Tip Colour around the little middles: they will be yellow.
Step 10: Yellow middles
Colour the 9 little middles yellow.
Step 11: Green stem and leaves
Colour the stem and all 4 feathery leaves green. Your yarrow is done!
