How to Draw a Poppy
Draw a poppy in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the middle.
Step 1: The middle
Near the top of your paper draw a small circle for the middle, about as big as a walnut.
Step 2: Two petals
From the circle, draw a huge floppy petal pointing down, back to the circle. Add one pointing right, tucked behind.
Tip Each petal is nearly as big as your palm. Tuck the next one behind.
Step 3: Two more petals
From the circle, draw a petal pointing up and one pointing left, tucked behind, each back to the circle.
Step 4: Crinkle lines
From the middle circle draw one soft wobbly line out along each petal. Stop well before the edge.
Step 5: Ring of dots
Draw 8 little black dots round the middle circle, one in each gap between the lines.
Step 6: The stem
Start under the flower. Draw a long line down to near the bottom. Add a second line a finger away.
Tip Let the stem bow a little and get wider at the bottom, like a real stalk.
Step 7: Two leaves
Below the flower, draw a fat leaf from the stem out to the left and back. Do the right too.
Tip The leaves sit about a hand below the flower.
Step 8: Leaf veins
From the stem draw one curved vein along the middle of each leaf, stopping short of the tip.
Step 9: Ground and grass
Draw a ground line across under the stem. Flick up 2 grass blades each side, away from the stem.
Step 10: Red petals
Colour all 4 petals bright red, right to their edges.
Step 11: Green stem, black middle
Colour the stem and leaves green, then the middle circle black. Go over your lines and your poppy is done!

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a poppy, drawn by you.
