How to Draw a Yacht

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a yacht in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the waves.

Print

  1. Step 1: The waves

Start at the left edge, below the middle. Draw gentle wave bumps right across, stopping at the right edge.

Tip Little hills, not spikes, all the same size. Add a few ripple dashes.

  2. Step 2: The hull

From the waves sweep up to a pointed nose, down right to the waves. Add a stripe under the top.

Tip Never draw the bottom of the boat: it is under the water.

  3. Step 3: Porthole eyes

On the hull draw 2 big round porthole eyes, one porthole apart. Colour a pupil in each, leaving a sparkle.

  4. Step 4: The smile

Start just under the left eye. Draw a small U smile and stop just under the right eye.

Tip Leave a little gap so the smile does not touch the eyes.

  5. Step 5: The cabin

Start on the deck left of the middle. Draw a slanted front and a flat roof, down to the deck.

  6. Step 6: The flybridge

Start on the cabin roof, left of the middle. Draw a smaller cabin on top, back down to the roof.

Tip A smaller copy of the cabin, half as tall and half as long.

  7. Step 7: Radar arch and aerial

Start near the back of the flybridge roof. Draw a tall upside-down U down to the roof. Add an aerial.

  8. Step 8: Window strip

In the cabin, under the roof, draw a row of 3 slanted windows, like 3 leaning boxes.

  9. Step 9: Portholes

Draw a small round porthole near the front of the hull and another near the back.

  10. Step 10: Mast and flag

Start on the front deck with a small oval. Draw a tall mast up to a ball, and a flag.

Tip The flag points backwards because the boat sails forward.

  11. Step 11: White boat, pink cheeks

Colour the hull, cabin and flybridge white. Leave the eyes white. Add 2 pink cheeks.

  12. Step 12: Sky glass, yellow flag

Colour the windows and portholes sky blue, and the flag and both balls yellow.

  13. Step 13: Blue sea, navy stripe

Colour the sea blue from the waves down to the bottom, then colour the stripe navy.
