How to Draw a Christmas Train

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a Christmas train in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the engine.

Print

  1. Step 1: The engine

On the right draw the engine: a tall cab at the back, then a lower boiler with a round nose.

Tip The cab is the tall box where the driver stands.

  2. Step 2: Funnel and steam

On the boiler draw a funnel, wider at the top. Above it draw 2 puffy steam clouds.

Tip The steam drifts back as the train rolls forward.

  3. Step 3: Two wagons

Behind the engine draw 2 wagons, wider at the top. Join them up with a short line from each.

Tip Make the 2 wagons the same size.

  4. Step 4: Roof and window

Draw a curved roof on the cab. In the cab draw a window with a round top.

  5. Step 5: Running board

Under the engine draw a long thin shelf with round ends, a little longer than the engine.

  6. Step 6: Rail and wheels

Draw a long rail along the bottom. Under the engine draw 2 big round wheels standing on it.

Tip Trace round a coin to get wheels that are true circles.

  7. Step 7: Wagon wheels

Draw 2 smaller round wheels under each wagon, standing on the rail.

  8. Step 8: The wreath

On the boiler draw a ring: a circle with a smaller circle inside. Add a bow on top.

Tip A bow is 2 loops that meet in the middle.

  9. Step 9: Presents

In the last wagon draw one big box. In the other draw a tall box and a short box.

Tip The boxes sit inside, so the wagon hides their bottoms.

  10. Step 10: Ribbons and bows

Draw a stripe down the middle of each present. Add a bow on top of the 2 biggest.

  11. Step 11: Yellow parts

Colour the roof, window, running board, ribbons and all 3 bows yellow. Add a yellow dot in each wheel.

  12. Step 12: Green wreath, wagons

Colour the wreath ring, both wagons and the short present green.

  13. Step 13: Red engine

Colour the engine red, around the wreath and its bow. Colour the 2 big presents red.

  14. Step 14: Black wheels

Colour the funnel and all 6 wheels black, around the yellow dots. Merry Christmas!
