How to Draw a Wood Plank
Draw a wood plank in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: front of the plank.
Step 1: Front of the plank
Just below the middle of your paper draw a long thin box lying down, nearly as wide as the paper.
Tip Long and thin: about 5 times wider than it is tall.
Step 2: Top and cut end
From the top left corner draw a thin slanted top strip, then the end, down to the bottom right corner.
Step 3: Two big eyes
On the front, left of the middle, draw 2 big egg eyes. Colour a big black dot in each.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a U smile from eye to eye. Add a small oval cheek beside each end.
Step 5: Wood grain
On the top draw a wavy grain line end to end, and one from the right end to the middle.
Step 6: A knot
On the top left, below the long grain line, draw a small flat egg knot.
Step 7: A nail
Near the right end of the top draw a nail half hammered in: a thin stick with a flat head.
Tip Only the top half of the nail shows; the point is inside the wood.
Step 8: Ground line
Draw a straight ground line under the plank, from far left to far right.
Step 9: Pink cheeks, grey nail
Go over your lines. Colour the cheeks pink and the nail grey, leaving the eyes white.
Step 10: Tan top, wood front
Colour the top tan around the nail and knot, and the front wood brown around the face.
Step 11: Brown end and knot
Colour the cut end and the knot darker brown. Your wood plank is ready to build with!
