How to Draw a Rocking Horse
Draw a rocking horse in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top left draw a sideways head like a fat peanut: big round cheek, smaller nose end.
Tip The nose end leans down to the left. Leave lots of room below.
Step 2: Eye and nose
Draw 1 big eye. From the nose top, curve a line down to the chin. Add a nostril and smile.
Tip Give the eye a black dot and a white shine. Only 1 eye: we see the side.
Step 3: The ears
On top of the head draw a pointed leaf ear with a smaller leaf inside, and a second ear behind.
Tip Add a fat lock of hair flopping forward over the forehead.
Step 4: The neck
Behind the ear, curve the neck's back line down to the right. From under the cheek, draw the front down.
Tip The neck is thick and gets wider as it goes down.
Step 5: Back and bottom
Carry on from the neck's back line. Draw a long back, curl round the bottom and stop.
Tip The back dips a little. The bottom is big and round.
Step 6: The mane
Start at the ears. Draw a row of fat petal locks along the neck, down to the shoulders.
Tip Each lock tucks behind the one above, like roof tiles.
Step 7: The rocker
Near the bottom draw a long curve like a big smile. Draw a second curve under it and join the ends.
Tip The rocker lets the horse rock back and forth. Add a ground line under its middle.
Step 8: Front leg
From the chest draw a leg reaching forward and down to a hoof on the rocker, then back up.
Tip The leg gets thinner as it goes down. The hoof is a little block with a line across its top.
Step 9: Tummy and back leg
From the front leg draw the tummy. Then a big back leg reaching back to the rocker and up.
Tip The back leg is wide at the top and joins the round bottom.
Step 10: The far legs
Behind each leg draw another leg peeking out, with its hoof on the rocker.
Tip Only draw the part you can see. The far legs hide behind the near ones.
Step 11: Saddle and tail
On the back draw a saddle with a bump at each end. Add a flowing tail from the bottom.
Tip The saddle sits just behind the mane.
Step 12: Cream and tan
Colour the nose patch cream, then the head, body and legs tan. Leave the eye, hair, saddle and hooves white.
Tip Go over your lines first.
Step 13: Brown and grey
Colour the mane, the forelock and the tail brown. Colour the 4 hooves grey.
Step 14: Red saddle and rocker
Colour the saddle and the long rocker red. Your rocking horse is ready to rock!
