How to Draw a Winged Lion
Draw a winged lion in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big soft head.
Step 1: Big soft head
On the left draw a big soft head, wider than tall, with round cheeks and a flat top.
Tip Leave room all round it for the mane, and on the right for the body.
Step 2: Round ears
On each top corner of the head draw a round ear with a curve inside. The left ear is smaller.
Step 3: Big eyes
On the middle of the head, a little to the left, draw 2 big oval eyes with black dots.
Tip Leave a tiny white shine in each eye.
Step 4: Snout and smile
Under the left eye draw a snout poking past the head. From its black nose, draw down into a w.
Tip Rub out the head line inside the snout.
Step 5: Bumpy mane
All round the head draw a ring of 11 soft bumps, like a sun. It goes behind the ears.
Tip Keep every bump about the same size.
Step 6: Long back
Start behind the mane, level with the eyes. Draw a long back, curl round the bottom, stop below chin level.
Tip The line runs almost flat, then curls down.
Step 7: Front leg
Draw a ground line. From under the mane, draw a leg down to a plump paw, then back up.
Tip The leg leans forward and gets thinner near the paw.
Step 8: Tummy and back leg
From the front leg draw the tummy. Then a round thigh down to a paw and up to the bottom.
Tip The back leg bends just above the paw.
Step 9: Far legs and toes
Under the tummy draw 2 more legs peeking out. Add 2 toes on each big paw, 1 on small ones.
Tip All 4 paws sit on the ground.
Step 10: Tufty tail
From the top of the bottom, draw a thin tail hanging down. Add a leaf tuft on its end.
Tip Thick at the body, thin at the tuft.
Step 11: Wing top
Start behind the mane on the back. Draw a long arch up and back to a wing tip.
Tip The tip is high above the lion's bottom.
Step 12: Feathers
From the tip draw 5 round feathers stepping down to the back. Add a row of small bumps inside.
Tip 5 even bumps, like the fingers of a mitten.
Step 13: Cream and sky blue
Colour the snout cream. Colour the wing sky blue.
Step 14: Sand and ginger
Colour the lion sand, around the snout. Then colour the mane and tail tuft ginger. Leave the eyes white.
