How to Draw a Barnacle

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a barnacle in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the rock.

Print

  1. Step 1: The rock

Low on your paper draw a big low rock, a rounded hump with sloping sides and a flat bottom.

  2. Step 2: The big barnacle

On top of the rock draw a big wide cone with slanting sides, a curved bottom and a rounded top.

  3. Step 3: A happy face

On the cone's front draw 2 big egg eyes with a dot and shine, a U smile and 2 cheeks.

  4. Step 4: The top opening

From the top left corner, dip a curve across to the top right. Inside, draw a diamond split in 2.

Tip The diamond is 2 little shell doors that the barnacle can shut.

  5. Step 5: Shell plates

Start on the bottom edge beside each cheek and draw a plate line up to the top curve.

  6. Step 6: Small barnacle left

From the big barnacle's left side, draw a small barnacle the same way, peeking out. Stop at the big one.

  7. Step 7: Small barnacle right

From the big barnacle's right side, draw another small barnacle the same way. Stop at the big one.

  8. Step 8: The sandy floor

Draw a gently wavy sand line from the left edge of the paper to the right, going behind the rock.

  9. Step 9: Bubbles

Up on the left draw 3 round bubbles floating up: small, bigger, biggest.

  10. Step 10: Seaweed

On the right, start on the sand. Draw a wiggly seaweed blade up to a soft point and back down.

  11. Step 11: Cream shells

Colour all 3 barnacles cream, around the eyes and cheeks. Leave the eyes white.

  12. Step 12: Sand and bubbles

Colour the floor under the sand line sand, right to the edges. Colour the bubbles light blue.

  13. Step 13: Pink cheeks, grey rock

Colour the 2 cheeks pink. Colour the rock grey, around the barnacles.

  14. Step 14: Green seaweed

Colour the seaweed green. Go over your lines and your barnacles are done!
