How to Draw a Willow Leaf
Draw a willow leaf in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the right side.
Step 1: The right side
Start at the top right. Curve down to a point low on the left, and turn up a tiny bit.
Tip A willow leaf is long and thin, like a blade of grass.
Step 2: The left side
From where you stopped, curve up the left side back to the top point. Keep the leaf thin.
Step 3: The stem
From the leaf's bottom point draw a thumb-long stem sloping down to the left, with a round end.
Step 4: The middle vein
Start where the stem joins the leaf. Draw one straight vein up the middle, stopping just short of the top.
Step 5: Veins on the left
From the middle vein draw 4 short veins on the left, slanting up towards the tip. Stop before the edge.
Step 6: Veins on the right
From the middle vein draw 4 veins on the right, each lower than a left vein. Stop before the edge.
Step 7: A thin shadow
From the right edge near the stem, curve a thin shadow out and back to the edge near the tip.
Step 8: Grey shadow
Colour the thin shadow light grey, right up to the leaf.
Step 9: Green leaf
Colour the willow leaf green, right to the edge and the sharp tip.
Step 10: Brown stem
Colour the stem brown. Go over your lines and you are done!
