How to Draw a Larkspur
Draw a larkspur in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: tall stalk.
Step 1: Tall stalk
Start at the bottom middle. Draw a very tall stalk of 2 lines, a little thinner at the top.
Step 2: First flower
Below the middle, on the right of the stalk, draw a flower with 5 round petals.
Tip Draw it over the stalk, so the stalk hides behind it.
Step 3: Flower on the left
A little higher, on the left side, draw another flower with 5 petals, nearly as big.
Step 4: More flowers
Keep going up the stalk, right then left, each flower a little smaller than the one below.
Step 5: Top flowers
Near the top draw 2 more small flowers, one on the right and one on the left.
Step 6: Buds at the tip
Above the flowers draw 3 closed buds, like little pointed ovals: right, left, and one on the very top.
Step 7: Flower middles
Draw a small circle in the middle of every flower.
Step 8: Feathery leaves
From the bottom of the stalk draw a leaf with 3 thin pointed fingers on each side.
Tip Larkspur leaves are split into thin fingers, like a bird's foot.
Step 9: Ground and grass
Draw a soft sagging ground line across the bottom. Flick 2 little grass blades up at each end.
Step 10: Yellow middles
Go over your lines. Colour the middle of every flower yellow.
Step 11: Purple flowers
Colour every flower and bud purple, around the yellow middles.
Step 12: Green stalk and leaves
Colour the stalk and both leaves leaf green, and your larkspur is done!
