How to Draw a Whole Note
Draw a whole note in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: top and bottom lines.
Step 1: Top and bottom lines
Near the top draw a long straight line from the left over to the right. Draw another near the bottom.
Step 2: Three lines between
Draw 3 more long lines between them, from the left over to the right, evenly spaced, to make 5.
Tip These 5 lines are a music staff. Keep the 4 gaps the same size.
Step 3: Big oval note
In the second gap from the bottom draw a big oval lying down, touching the lines above and below.
Tip A whole note has no stem: it is just a fat oval ring.
Step 4: The hole
Inside it draw a smaller oval, tipped a little to the right, so the ring is fat at the sides.
Step 5: Two little eyes
In the hole draw 2 little egg eyes. Colour a black dot in each, leaving a tiny shine.
Step 6: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a small U smile. Add a tiny oval cheek beside each end.
Step 7: The shine
On the fat left side of the ring draw a short curve that follows the outer edge.
Step 8: Sparkles
Draw 3 little sparkle stars in the gaps around the note: each has 4 points.
Step 9: Pink cheeks, yellow sparkles
Colour the 2 cheeks pink and the 3 sparkles yellow.
Step 10: Blue whole note
Colour the ring blue. Leave the hole and the eyes white. Go over your lines!
Tip A whole note is held for 4 slow beats.

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a whole note, drawn by you.
