How to Draw a Well
Draw a well in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the pointy roof.
Step 1: The pointy roof
Near the top, draw a wide pointy roof with a thick brim sticking out both sides, like a hat.
Tip Leave the bottom half of the paper for the stone drum.
Step 2: The rim
Below the middle, draw a long flat oval for the rim, nearly as wide as the roof.
Step 3: Two posts
Under each end of the brim, draw a thin post with 2 lines, from the brim down to the rim.
Step 4: The stone drum
From the rim's left end, draw the drum down and round to the right end. Add an oval inside.
Step 5: The stones
Cover the drum with little rounded stones: a row of flat ovals across the top and another row below.
Step 6: Bar and crank
Draw a bar from the left post across to the right, with a box in the middle. Add a crank.
Tip The crank is a bent handle on the right post, ending in a knob.
Step 7: Rope and bucket
Start under the box. Draw a short rope straight down and stop. Hang a small bucket with a rainbow handle.
Step 8: Ground and daisies
From each side of the drum, draw a ground line out to the edge, with grass and a daisy.
Step 9: Stone and daisies
Colour the drum and rim stone around the stones, and the daisy middles yellow. Leave the petals white.
Step 10: Grey stones, wood posts
Colour the stones grey, and the posts, the box and the bucket wood brown.
Step 11: Red roof, dark water
Colour the roof red and the water in the rim navy. Go over your lines and your well is done!
