How to Draw a Wasp

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a wasp in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top of your paper, draw a big egg on its side for the head, with round cheeks.

Tip Leave lots of room below for the long pointed body.

  2. Step 2: Two feelers

Start on the head, left of the top. Draw a curve up and out to a ball. Same on right.

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

On the middle of the head, draw 2 big egg eyes, an eye apart. Add black dots with shines.

  4. Step 4: Smile and cheeks

Under the eyes, draw a flat line and a U under it. Add a round cheek under each eye.

  5. Step 5: A pinched body

From the chin, draw a small chest, a tiny thin waist, then a long pointed tummy.

Tip A wasp has a tiny waist, and its tummy ends in a sharp point.

  6. Step 6: Four thin stripes

Start on the left of the tummy. Draw 2 close smile lines across to the right. Add 3 more pairs.

  7. Step 7: Long wings

From the side of the head, draw a long thin wing out and back to the chest. Same on right.

  8. Step 8: Front legs

Under each wing, start on the chest. Draw a thin bent leg out to a small ball foot and back.

  9. Step 9: Back legs

Low on each side of the chest, draw a thin bent leg down to a small ball foot and back.

Tip The back feet sit wider apart than the knees.

  10. Step 10: The stinger

Start on the point of the tummy. Draw a small sharp triangle pointing down, and stop back on the tummy.

  11. Step 11: Yellow wasp, red mouth

Colour the head and body yellow around the eyes, cheeks and stripes. Leave the eyes white. Colour the mouth red.

  12. Step 12: Blue wings, pink cheeks

Colour the 2 long wings sky blue, and colour the round cheeks pink.

  13. Step 13: Black stripes, grey legs

Colour the 4 stripes, the stinger and the feeler balls black. Colour all 4 legs dark grey.
