How to Draw a Viperfish

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a viperfish in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: head, mouth and body.

Print

  1. Step 1: Head, mouth and body

Start on the right. Draw the back, top jaw, V mouth, longer bottom jaw and tummy, stopping under the start.

Tip Make the bottom jaw poke out past the top jaw, and keep the body long and thin.

  2. Step 2: Eye and needle fangs

Draw one big eye above the mouth corner. Add 4 needle fangs, 2 up, 2 down, poking past the jaws.

  3. Step 3: Forked tail

Start at the back's end. Draw a point up, a dent in, then a point down to the tummy.

  4. Step 4: Fishing-rod light

Start on the back behind the head. Draw a long line arching over the head, ending in a round light.

Tip The light glows above the mouth to tempt dinner.

  5. Step 5: Fins near the tail

Near the tail, start on the back. Draw a small fin back down to the back. Same under the tummy.

  6. Step 6: Gill and side fin

Behind the eye draw a tall C gill. Add a small fin that starts and ends on the gill.

  7. Step 7: Glowing dots

Along the tummy draw a row of 5 little dots, from under the eye toward the tail, like tiny lights.

  8. Step 8: Bubbles

Above the snout draw 3 bubbles floating up, smallest at the bottom, biggest at the top.

  9. Step 9: Sand and seaweed

Draw a wavy sand line right across the bottom. Add a wiggly seaweed strand on each side.

  10. Step 10: Sandy floor, blue bubbles

Colour the floor under the sand line sandy and the bubbles light blue.

  11. Step 11: Green seaweed

    Colour both seaweed strands green.

  12. Step 12: Yellow lights, slate fins

Colour the little light and every dot yellow. Colour the tail and fins slate grey.

  13. Step 13: Red mouth, navy body

Colour the mouth red, then the body navy around the mouth, fins and dots. Leave the eye and fangs white.

Tip Go over your lines and your viperfish is done!
