How to Draw a Venus Flytrap
Draw a Venus flytrap in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the pot rim.
Step 1: The pot rim
Below the middle of your paper draw a wide flat box for the pot rim, as wide as your hand.
Step 2: The pot
Start under the rim's left end. Draw the pot down and across, then back up to the rim's right end.
Tip The pot sides lean in, so it is narrower at the bottom.
Step 3: Two big eyes
On the pot, below the rim, draw 2 big eggy eyes one eye apart. Add black dots with tiny shines.
Step 4: A big smile
Under the eyes draw a wide U smile from one eye to the other, with the ends turning up.
Step 5: A stem
From the middle of the rim draw 2 gently bending lines up, closer at the top, stopping a hand higher.
Step 6: Two leaves
Halfway up the stem draw a fat round leaf out to the left, and another a bit higher right.
Step 7: The open trap
Draw 2 fat half-moons leaning apart on the stem. Inside each, curve a line from corner up to tip.
Tip Leave a wide gap between the 2 tips, like an open mouth.
Step 8: Spiky teeth
Along the open edge of each half draw 5 short spiky teeth, pointing into the gap.
Step 9: A fly
Up to the right draw a tiny fly: a little egg body, 2 wings and a wiggly line behind it.
Step 10: The table
Draw a long straight line along the bottom of the pot, well past both sides, for the table.
Step 11: Pink insides and cheeks
Colour the inside of the trap pink, and 2 rosy pink cheeks on the pot.
Step 12: Ginger pot
Colour the pot and rim ginger brown, around the eyes and cheeks. Leave the eyes white.
Step 13: Green trap, grey fly
Colour the stem, leaves and trap green around the pink, and the fly grey. Your fly trap is done!
