How to Draw a Sagebrush
Draw a sagebrush in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: middle tufts.
Step 1: Middle tufts
Start high on the left. Draw 3 tall rounded bumps side by side, like fat fingers, stopping on the right.
Tip Make the middle one the tallest.
Step 2: Side tufts
From each end draw 3 more rounded bumps, each one lower, leaning out and down the side.
Tip The whole top should look like a wide open fan.
Step 3: Bumps underneath
Start under the left tuft. Draw 5 shallow bumps hanging down and across to the right tuft.
Step 4: Outer stems
From under the leaves draw a wiggly line curving in and down to the ground. Do both sides.
Tip Sagebrush is low: keep the stems short.
Step 5: 3 twisty stems
From the bottom of the leaves draw 2 thin upside-down V shapes down to near the ground.
Tip Now there are 3 woody stems growing from one spot.
Step 6: Tuft lines
Start at each dip along the top. Draw a short curved line down into the leaves and stop.
Step 7: The ground
Start at the left edge. Draw a straight ground line under the stems and stop at the right edge.
Step 8: 2 stones
Start on the ground. Draw a low hill for a big stone, stop on the ground. Add a small one.
Step 9: Sandy ground
Go over your lines. Colour the ground sand, right to the edges of the page, and the stones pale grey.
Step 10: Brown stems
Colour the 3 twisty stems light brown.
Step 11: Grey green leaves
Colour all the leafy tufts a soft grey green, and your sagebrush is done.
