How to Draw a Valley
Draw a valley in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the ground.
Step 1: The ground
Low on your paper draw a long straight ground line, almost from edge to edge.
Step 2: A far mountain
From the ground, slant up to a peak in the middle and back down. Add a zigzag snow line.
Step 3: The left hill
Start on the ground just left of the middle. Slope a big hill up and out to the left edge.
Tip Rub out the mountain line inside the hill.
Step 4: The right hill
Start on the ground just right of the middle. Slope a big hill up and out to the right edge.
Tip Rub out the mountain line inside the hill.
Step 5: The river
Start on the left hill. Draw 2 lines winding down to the bottom of the hills. Add 2 ripples.
Step 6: Pine trees
On each hill draw 2 little pine trees: 3 triangles stacked up as one zigzag, with a stubby trunk.
Step 7: The sun
In the top left corner draw a round sun with 8 short rays round it.
Step 8: A cloud
Near the top right draw a small puffy cloud: 4 round bumps over the top and 2 shallow bumps underneath.
Step 9: Yellow sun, green trees
Go over your lines. Colour the sun yellow and the 4 pine trees green.
Step 10: Brown trunks, blue river
Colour the 4 tree trunks brown and the river blue between its 2 lines.
Step 11: Green hills
Colour both hills green, around the trees, right out to the edges.
Step 12: Grey mountain, white snow
Colour the far mountain grey, around the river, and leave the snow on top white.
