How to Draw an Umpire

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw an umpire in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top of your paper draw an egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin.

Tip The mask hangs at the left, so it needs room there.

  2. Step 2: The face

Draw 2 big round eyes with black dots. Add a nose, a smile and 2 small oval cheeks.

  3. Step 3: Baseball cap

Draw a round cap over the head with a little button on top. Add a bill curving like a smile.

  4. Step 4: Neck and shirt

Draw 2 neck lines under the chin. From the left one draw the shirt round and stop at the right.

  5. Step 5: Chest protector

On the chest draw a rounded box with a dip at the top. Add 3 bars across, side to side.

  6. Step 6: Long sleeves

From the left sleeve draw the arm down to the wrist, bent at the elbow. Draw the right arm up.

Tip The right fist punches up for the call.

  7. Step 7: Hands

On the left wrist draw a fist pointing down. On the right wrist draw a fist pointing up.

  8. Step 8: Face mask

Under the left fist draw a strap and a face-shaped mask with a smaller one inside. Add 3 bars.

Tip The mask hangs at the side, never over the face.

  9. Step 9: Trousers and shoes

Start at the left of the shirt. Draw 2 trouser legs down and stop at the right end. Add shoes.

  10. Step 10: Ground and home plate

Draw a long ground line under the shoes. On the right draw home plate, a 5-sided shape with a point.

  11. Step 11: Peach skin, pink cheeks

Colour the face, neck and hands peach, around the cheeks. Colour the cheeks pink. Leave the eyes white.

  12. Step 12: Blue shirt, navy cap

Colour the shirt and sleeves sky blue. Colour the cap, the chest protector and the mask pads navy.

  13. Step 13: Grey trousers, black shoes

Colour the trousers grey and the shoes black, leaving home plate white. Your umpire is done!
