How to Draw a Two-Story House

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a two-story house in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the roof.

Print

  1. Step 1: The roof

Near the top draw a pointy roof like a witch's hat, with a thick brim poking out past the slopes.

Tip The roof is a bit more than half the house.

  2. Step 2: Tall walls

Start under the brim's left end. Draw a tall box down and across, and stop under its right end.

Tip The walls are as tall as they are wide: 2 floors.

  3. Step 3: The door

Draw a tall door on the wall with a rainbow top, a round peep window and a round knob.

  4. Step 4: Doorstep and ground

From the wall bottom, draw a low step over the door, stopping on the wall. Add ground and grass.

Tip Rub out the door lines inside the step.

  5. Step 5: Downstairs windows

Draw a big square window each side of the door, and a round attic window in the roof.

  6. Step 6: Sills and panes

Draw a thin sill shelf under each square window, poking out a little. Give every window a plus sign.

  7. Step 7: Upstairs windows

Halfway up draw 3 windows, one over each window below and one over the door. Add panes and sills.

Tip Line them up with the windows below, like soldiers in rows.

  8. Step 8: Chimney and smoke

Draw a chimney with a flat cap on the right slope. Add 3 smoke puffs going up, small to big.

Tip Keep the chimney top below the roof point, and leave gaps between the puffs.

  9. Step 9: 2 bushes

At each bottom corner draw a plump bumpy dome bush over the corner, starting and stopping on the ground.

  10. Step 10: Sky windows, green bushes

Colour all the windows sky blue, even the peep window, and the bushes green.

  11. Step 11: Wooden door, stone step

Colour the door wood brown around its peep window, and the step stone grey.

  12. Step 12: Red roof, brown chimney

Colour the roof red around its window, and the chimney brown. Leave the walls and smoke white.

Tip Your two-storey house is done!
