How to Draw a Turnip

11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a turnip in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the bulb.

Print

  1. Step 1: The bulb

In the middle of your paper draw a wide round bulb that narrows to a little point at the bottom.

Tip Fat and squat like a spinning top.

  2. Step 2: Two big eyes

Draw 2 big egg eyes below the middle of the bulb. Add a black dot and a shine in each.

Tip Nothing else touches the eyes.

  3. Step 3: Smile and cheeks

Under the eyes draw a wide U smile. Add a small flat cheek beside each end.

  4. Step 4: Three stems

From the bulb top draw 3 stems getting thinner as they go: 1 straight up, 1 curving out each side.

  5. Step 5: Three leaves

On the end of each stem draw a big pointed leaf, like an almond.

  6. Step 6: Leaf veins

Draw 1 line up the middle of each leaf, from near the stem to near the tip.

  7. Step 7: The purple top

Above the eyes draw 1 shallow curve across the bulb, edge to edge, bowing up a little.

  8. Step 8: The ground

Draw the ground line from the left edge to the right edge, just touching the point of the bulb.

  9. Step 9: Pink cheeks

Go over your lines, then colour the cheeks pink.

  10. Step 10: Purple top, white bulb

Colour the bulb purple above the curve. Leave the bottom and the eyes white.

  11. Step 11: Green leaves

Colour the leaves and stems green, and your turnip is done!
