How to Draw a Trombone

9 steps · Medium · about 7 min

Draw a trombone in 9 easy steps, about 7 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the long tube.

Print

  1. Step 1: The long tube

Start left of the middle. Draw a long line sloping up right and stop. Draw a matching line below.

  2. Step 2: The big bell

From the right ends of both lines swoop out wide like a flower. Join the ends with a leaning oval.

  3. Step 3: The back bend

Start on the left end of the top line. Draw a big C round and down, ending under the tube.

  4. Step 4: The slide

From the back bend draw 2 long lines, stopping past the bell. Draw a C round, then 2 back.

Tip Where the top 2 lines reach the bell, stop, and carry on again just past its rim.

  5. Step 5: The mouthpiece

On the left end of the bottom tube draw a thin ring. From it draw a little cup going left.

  6. Step 6: Three braces

Near the back bend draw 2 short lines from tube down to tube. Add 1 more halfway along the slide.

  7. Step 7: Toot! Music notes

Above the bell draw a small tilted oval note with a stem up and a curly flag. Add another.

  8. Step 8: Shiny yellow brass

Colour the tube, back bend, slide and bell yellow like shiny brass. Leave the inside of the bell white.

  9. Step 9: Orange bell, grey mouthpiece

Colour the inside of the bell orange, the mouthpiece grey, and the note heads black. Go over all your lines.
