How to Draw a Trillium

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a trillium in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: three petals.

Print

  1. Step 1: Three petals

Near the top middle draw a small circle. Round it draw 3 big pointed petals, one up and 2 down.

Tip Everything on a trillium comes in threes: 3 petals, 3 sepals, 3 leaves.

  2. Step 2: Three sepals

Between the petals draw 3 small narrow sepals, little green leaves peeking out from behind.

  3. Step 3: Stamens

On the petals round the middle circle draw a tidy ring of 6 little dots, evenly spaced.

  4. Step 4: The stem

Start under the flower. Draw a stem of 2 gently curving lines down, stopping a little below the middle.

  5. Step 5: Three leaves

At the bottom of the stem draw 3 broad pointed leaves: one left, one right, one pointing down.

  6. Step 6: Stem to the ground

Start under the front leaf. Draw the rest of the stem, 2 lines down, stopping at the ground.

  7. Step 7: Leaf veins

Start at the stem end of each leaf and draw one vein to near its tip.

  8. Step 8: Ground and grass

Draw the ground line from far left to far right through the stem bottom. Flick up grass blades each side.

  9. Step 9: Yellow middle

Go over your lines. Leave the 3 petals white and colour the middle yellow.

  10. Step 10: Green leaves and stem

Colour the sepals, leaves and stem green, and your trillium is done!
