How to Draw a Flower with Roots
Draw a flower with roots in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: flower middle.
Step 1: Flower middle
Near the top of your paper, in the middle, draw a small circle.
Tip Leave lots of room below for the stem and the roots.
Step 2: Six petals
Draw 6 round petals all the way round the circle, each one starting and ending on it.
Tip Draw one petal out to each side first, then fit 2 above and 2 below.
Step 3: The stem
Start between the 2 bottom petals. Draw 2 lines straight down and stop well below the middle of the paper.
Step 4: Ground line
Draw a long straight line across the paper, through the bottom of the stem.
Tip Everything under this line is under the ground.
Step 5: Two leaves
Low on the stem, draw a leaf on each side that curves out and up to a point.
Step 6: Leaf veins
Draw a curved line along the middle of each leaf, from the stem towards the tip.
Step 7: Main root
Under the stem, draw a long thin root from the ground line down to a point.
Step 8: Side roots
From each side of the main root, draw 2 thin roots reaching out and down to a point.
Tip Roots spread out to hold the plant and drink water.
Step 9: Tiny roots
Flick 3 thin little roots out from the side roots on each side.
Step 10: Label lines
Rule 4 straight lines out to the sides: from the flower, a leaf, the stem and a root.
Tip Write flower, leaf, stem and roots at the ends of the lines.
Step 11: Yellow and cream
Colour the middle of the flower yellow and all the roots cream.
Step 12: Pink petals
Colour the 6 petals pink.
Step 13: Green stem and leaves
Colour the stem and the 2 leaves green.
Step 14: Brown soil
Go over your lines. Colour under the ground line brown, around the roots.
