How to Draw a Sprout

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a sprout in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: soil mound.

Print

  1. Step 1: Soil mound

Near the bottom start on the left. Draw a soft hill up and over, stopping level on the right.

Tip Make the mound as wide as your hand.

  2. Step 2: The stem

From the mound draw 2 lines up, twice as tall as the mound, starting wide and ending close together.

  3. Step 3: Two big leaves

Halfway up the stem draw a big fat round leaf out to the left and back. Do the right too.

  4. Step 4: Leaf veins

Start on the stem in each leaf. Draw one curved vein line out toward the tip, stopping just short.

  5. Step 5: Tiny bud

From the top of one stem line draw 2 tiny round leaves like a V, stopping on the other line.

  6. Step 6: The ground

From the bottom of the mound draw a ground line out to the left, and one out to the right.

  7. Step 7: Grass

From the ground line on each side, flick 2 little grass blades up.

  8. Step 8: Pebbles

On the mound draw 2 small flat pebbles, one low on the left and one higher on the right.

  9. Step 9: Green sprout

Colour both leaves, the bud and the stem green.

  10. Step 10: Grey pebbles, brown soil

Colour the pebbles grey. Colour the mound brown around them. Go over your lines and your sprout is done!
