How to Draw a Town Map
Draw a town map in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the paper.
Step 1: The paper
In the middle of your paper draw a big box for the map, a little wider than it is tall.
Step 2: Top corners
Start on the top edge. Draw down, turn left and stop at the left edge. Draw another, turning right.
Tip Leave a gap between the 2 lines. The gap is a road.
Step 3: Bottom corners
Start on the bottom edge. Draw up, turn left and stop at the left edge. Draw another, turning right.
Tip Leave a gap under your first lines. That long gap is the main road.
Step 4: Road dashes
Draw short dashes down the middle of every road.
Tip Skip the places where 2 roads meet.
Step 5: Three houses
Above the long road draw 3 boxes for houses: a big one on the left and 2 on the right.
Tip Keep the bottoms of the boxes level, a little above the road.
Step 6: Roofs and doors
Draw a wide triangle roof on top of each house. Add a small door at the bottom.
Step 7: A pond
Below the long road, on the left, draw a wide lumpy oval for a pond.
Step 8: Three trees
Next to the pond draw 3 bumpy cloud shapes for trees.
Tip On a map you see trees from above, so they look like little clouds.
Step 9: A compass
In the bottom right corner draw a big 4-pointed star. Add a circle round its middle for a compass.
Tip The top point of a compass star shows which way is north.
Step 10: Sand land
Go over your lines. Colour the 4 blocks of land sand, around the houses, pond, trees and star.
Step 11: Grey and yellow
Colour the roads grey. Colour the walls of the 3 houses yellow, around the doors.
Step 12: Blue and green
Colour the pond blue and the 3 trees green.
Step 13: Red roofs
Colour the roofs, the doors and the compass star red. Your town map is ready!
