How to Draw an A-Frame Ladder
Draw an A-frame ladder in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: top shelf.
Step 1: Top shelf
Near the top of your paper draw a box twice as wide as it is tall, for the top shelf.
Tip A step ladder has back legs too, so it stands up by itself.
Step 2: 2 big eyes
On the shelf draw 2 round eyes side by side. Colour a black dot in each, leaving a white shine.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a small U smile, and a tiny flat oval cheek beside each eye.
Step 4: Front legs
From under the shelf draw 2 long thin legs slanting down to the ground, wide apart at the bottom.
Step 5: 3 steps
Between the legs draw 3 flat boxes for the steps, evenly spaced, each a little shorter than the one below.
Step 6: Back legs
From each end of the shelf draw a thin back leg slanting out to the ground, outside the front leg.
Step 7: Side bars
Join each front leg to its back leg with a short straight bar, between the bottom 2 steps.
Step 8: Ground
Draw a ground line under all 4 legs, from left to right.
Step 9: Sparkles
Draw a four-point sparkle in the air at each side of the top shelf.
Step 10: Pink and yellow
Go over your lines. Colour the cheeks pink and the sparkles yellow.
Step 11: Tan shelf, back legs
Colour the top shelf tan around the cheeks, and the back legs tan. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Wood ladder
Colour the front legs and the 3 steps wood brown. Up we go!
