How to Draw a California Flag
Draw a california flag in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: pole and ground.
Step 1: Pole and ground
Draw a tall thin pole on the left, a ball on top, and a ground line from edge to edge.
Step 2: The waving flag
Start on the pole below the ball. Draw a wavy top edge, a straight right side, a wavy bottom edge.
Step 3: The bottom stripe
Start on the pole, a little above the bottom edge. Draw a wavy line across to the right edge.
Step 4: One star
In the top corner next to the pole draw 1 star with 5 points.
Step 5: Bear's head and back
In the middle start at the nose. Go over a round ear and a hump, then down to the heel.
Tip The bear walks towards the pole. Its shoulder hump is the highest point, just behind the ear.
Step 6: Legs and tummy
From the heel draw a back paw, the tummy, a front leg and paw, the chin, back to the nose.
Step 7: Far legs
Under the tummy draw 2 more legs with flat paws, peeking out from behind.
Step 8: Eye and nose
Colour a small black dot for the eye, and a black nose on the tip of the snout.
Step 9: Grass patch
Under the paws draw a long flat grass patch: a straight line on top, a curved line underneath.
Tip The real flag says CALIFORNIA REPUBLIC under the grass. Write it in the gap if you like.
Step 10: Yellow ball, grey pole
Colour the ball on top of the pole yellow and the pole grey.
Step 11: Green grass
Colour the grass patch under the bear green.
Step 12: Red star and stripe
Colour the star and the bottom stripe red. Leave the rest of the flag white.
Step 13: Brown bear
Colour the bear brown, all 4 legs too. Go over your lines and your flag is waving!
