How to Draw a Pinwheel

11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a pinwheel in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the middle circle.

Print

  1. Step 1: The middle circle

Above the middle of your paper draw a circle as big as a plum.

Tip Leave room all round for the sails and below for the stick.

  2. Step 2: Two big eyes

In the circle draw 2 big egg eyes side by side. Add a big black dot and a shine.

  3. Step 3: Smile and cheeks

Under the eyes draw a small U smile. Add an oval cheek under each eye, away from the smile.

  4. Step 4: Top and bottom sails

From the top of the circle, draw a sail up, curving round to a point and back. Add one below.

  5. Step 5: Side sails

Draw the same curled sail on the left side and the right side. Now the 4 sails swirl round.

  6. Step 6: Fold lines

On each sail draw a line from its pointy tip back in to the circle.

  7. Step 7: The stick

Start under the bottom sail. Draw a long line down, across a finger, and back up. Stop at the sail.

  8. Step 8: The ground

Draw a long ground line across the bottom of the stick.

  9. Step 9: Yellow sails, pink cheeks

Go over your lines. Colour the top and bottom sails yellow and the cheeks pink.

  10. Step 10: Blue middle, red sails

Colour the middle sky blue, around the eyes and cheeks. Leave the eyes white. Colour the side sails red.

  11. Step 11: Wood stick

Colour the stick wood brown. Your pinwheel is ready to spin!
