How to Draw a Topiary

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a topiary in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the pot.

Print

  1. Step 1: The pot

Draw a wide flat box low down. From under its left end, go down leaning in, across, up to it.

    Tip This is your pot.

  2. Step 2: The big ball

Above the pot draw a big ball of leafy bumps: start at the top, go round, back to the start.

Tip Leave a small gap between the ball and the pot rim.

  3. Step 3: The middle ball

Above it, after a small gap, draw a smaller ball of 8 bumps, from its top round to the start.

  4. Step 4: The top ball

Above that, after another small gap, draw the smallest ball of 7 bumps, from its top round to the start.

  5. Step 5: The stem

Draw a thin stem of 2 lines from the pot rim up to the big ball, and between each ball.

  6. Step 6: Leaf ticks

Draw a few tiny curved leaf ticks inside each ball, at different heights, never side by side.

  7. Step 7: The table

Draw a long straight line along the bottom of the pot, from well left to well right, for the table.

  8. Step 8: Green balls

Go over your lines, then colour all 3 balls leaf green, right out to the bumps.

  9. Step 9: Ginger pot

Colour the pot and its rim ginger brown.

  10. Step 10: Brown stem

Colour the 3 bits of stem dark brown. Your topiary is done!
