How to Draw a Gardenia
Draw a gardenia in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the swirl.
Step 1: The swirl
Near the top draw a small circle. Inside, draw a swirl from the middle out to the circle.
Tip A gardenia is a creamy rose with shiny dark leaves.
Step 2: Inner petals
Round the circle draw 5 round petals, each one tucked under the next, like a pinwheel.
Step 3: 4 outer petals
Behind the inner petals draw 4 bigger petals, spaced out, with their tips all leaning the same way.
Step 4: 3 more petals
Draw 3 more big petals in the gaps, tucked behind their neighbours, so 7 go all the way round.
Step 5: The stem
From under the flower draw 2 gently curving lines down, stopping near the bottom, close at the top, wider below.
Step 6: 2 glossy leaves
Below the flower draw a big pointed leaf on the stem's left edge. Add one lower on the right.
Step 7: Leaf veins
Start on the stem in each leaf and draw one vein out towards the tip, stopping short.
Step 8: Ground and grass
Start near the left edge and draw a ground line through the stem, stopping near the right edge. Add grass.
Step 9: Cream petals
Colour the 7 outer petals cream.
Step 10: Cream middle
Colour the inner petals and the middle cream too, leaving the swirl lines showing.
Step 11: Dark glossy leaves
Colour the stem and leaves dark green, and your gardenia is done!
