How to Draw a Tomato Plant
Draw a tomato plant in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the stem.
Step 1: The stem
Left of the middle, start at the bottom. Draw 2 stem lines that curve up and meet in a point.
Tip Wide at the bottom, thin at the top. Stop a little below the top of the page.
Step 2: Branches
From the stem draw 4 branches curving out to thin tips. Take turns: left, right, left, right.
Step 3: Leaves on the tips
On the tip of each branch draw a big pointed leaf. Add a line down its middle.
Step 4: Leaves on the branches
Halfway along each branch, draw a pointed leaf standing up. Add a line down its middle.
Step 5: Top leaf
On the tip of the stem draw one more pointed leaf standing up. Add a line down its middle.
Step 6: Tomatoes
Under each branch, near its tip, draw a big round tomato hanging a little below the branch.
Tip Leave a small gap between the branch and the tomato.
Step 7: Caps and stalks
On top of each tomato draw a little star cap. Join its top to the branch with a short stalk.
Step 8: The stake
Just right of the stem draw a tall thin stake, from above the plant down to the bottom.
Tip The stake goes behind the branches, so skip over them.
Step 9: Ties and ground
Draw 2 flat string ties across the stem and stake. Then draw a long ground line under them.
Step 10: Light green leaves
Colour the 4 leaves on the branch tips and the top leaf light green.
Step 11: More green
Colour the other 4 leaves light green. Colour the star caps dark green.
Step 12: Green stem
Colour the stem and the 4 branches dark green. Colour the 2 ties cream.
Step 13: Red tomatoes
Colour the stake brown. Colour the tomatoes red around their caps. Your tomato plant is done!
