How to Draw a Tomato Cage

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a tomato cage in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: three wires.

Print

  1. Step 1: Three wires

In the middle draw 3 tall wire legs: straight lines from the ground up to near the top, leaning apart.

Tip A tomato cage holds the plant up as it grows.

  2. Step 2: Three rings

Across the wires draw 3 flat oval rings: biggest near the top, smaller in the middle, smallest near the bottom.

  3. Step 3: The plant's stem

Left of the middle wire draw the stem: 2 close, bending lines from the ground up to the top ring.

  4. Step 4: Lower leaves

From the stem draw 2 soft pointed leaves poking out over the rings, one low left, one higher right.

  5. Step 5: Upper leaves

Draw 2 more leaves higher up, one each side, and a small one at the very top of the stem.

  6. Step 6: Tomatoes

Draw 3 round tomatoes on the plant, cherry sized: one on the left, one low right, one high right.

  7. Step 7: Stars and stalks

On each tomato draw a tiny leafy star. Then draw a short stalk from the stem down to each star.

  8. Step 8: Ground and grass

Draw the ground line from edge to edge under the wires and stem. Add a grass tuft out each side.

  9. Step 9: Green plant

Go over your lines, then colour the leaves, stem, stalks and stars green.

  10. Step 10: Red tomatoes

Colour the 3 tomatoes red, around the green stars. Your tomato cage is done!
