How to Draw a Toddler in a Car Seat

Step 1: The head

Above the middle of your paper draw an egg for the head, narrower at the chin, with room all round.

Tip The toddler is a bit smaller, sitting deep in the big seat.

Step 2: The face

Draw 2 big round eyes, a nose and a smile. Add 2 C ears, starting and ending on the head.

Step 3: Soft hair cap

Start left, above the eyes. Draw round tufts over the top, down to the right. Add a hairline curve across.

Step 4: Neck, T-shirt, harness

Draw 2 neck lines and a T-shirt. Add straps from each shoulder and hip that meet at a buckle.

Tip The shoulder straps come from behind the shoulders, over them and down to the buckle.

Step 5: Arms

Left arm: from the sleeve, hang down to the wrist. Right arm: from the sleeve, bend up beside the head.

Step 6: Hands and rattle

Add a small hand and a fist. From the fist draw a rattle stick up to a striped ball.

Tip The small hand hangs from the low arm; the stick passes behind the fist.

Step 7: Knees, legs and shoes

Draw the knees as one bump. From under the knees draw 2 short legs down to 2 shoes.

Tip The legs dangle over the seat edge.

Step 8: Car seat and base

Draw the seat from bottom left, up and round to bottom right. Add 2 wings, a base and ground line.

Tip The wings curve from the top corners round the head, clear of the face and the rattle.

Step 9: Peach skin, pink cheeks

Colour the face, neck, arms, hands and legs peach, with a pink circle on each cheek. Go over your lines!

Tip Keep the eyes white.

Step 10: Yellow T-shirt, grey straps

Colour the T-shirt yellow around the straps, and the rattle stripe yellow. Then colour the straps, buckle and base grey.

Step 11: Red rattle, green shorts

Colour the rattle ball red around its stripe, the shoes red, and the knees green around the hand for shorts.

Step 12: Brown hair, blue seat

Colour the hair brown, and the car seat blue around the toddler.
