How to Draw a Puppeteer
Draw a puppeteer in 13 steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top of your paper, left of the middle, draw an egg head. Make the chin end narrower.
Tip The puppet dances on the right, so leave room there.
Step 2: The face
Draw 2 small oval eyes with black dots, a tiny U nose and a smile. Add 2 short eyebrows.
Step 3: Hair and bob
Draw the hair over the head with a curved fringe. Hang it down to the jaw on each side.
Step 4: Neck and shirt
Draw 2 short neck lines. Start at the left one, draw a striped shirt, and stop at the right one.
Step 5: Arms
Start at each sleeve. Draw the left arm down to the wrist. Draw the right arm up beside the head.
Tip The raised fist will grip the crossbar.
Step 6: Hands
On the left wrist draw a round hand with a thumb. On the right wrist draw a fist pointing up.
Step 7: Crossbar and strings
Through the raised fist draw a flat stick sticking out far to the right. Hang 3 straight strings from it.
Tip The strings hang to the right of the arm, never across it.
Step 8: The puppet
On the middle string hang a smiling round head with round eyes. Add a box body, arms and ball hands.
Tip Each ball hand hangs on a side string.
Step 9: Puppet's legs
From the bottom of the puppet's body draw 2 short bent tube legs. Give each a little block foot.
Step 10: Trousers and ground
Start at the hem's left end. Draw trouser legs, stopping at its right end. Add shoes and a ground line.
Step 11: Peach skin, pink cheeks
Colour the face, neck, arms and hands peach, with a pink circle on each cheek.
Tip Keep the eyes white.
Step 12: Wooden puppet, brown hair
Colour the crossbar and the whole puppet light wood brown, leaving its eyes white. Colour the hair brown.
Step 13: Red stripes, navy trousers
Colour the shirt stripes red and the trousers and shoes navy. Your puppeteer is done!
