How to Draw Fishing off a Dock

Draw fishing off a dock in 13 steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Step 1: The head
Left of the middle, a little lower than usual, draw an egg for the head, narrower at the chin.
Tip The kid sits on the end of a dock over the water.
Step 2: The face
Draw 2 oval eyes, a U nose and a smile. Add C ears: start and stop on the head line.
Step 3: Sun hat
From the head's left side draw the hat over the top to the right. Add a floppy brim under it.
Tip The brim slopes down past the head on both sides.
Step 4: Neck and T-shirt
Draw 2 neck lines under the chin. From the left one, draw a short-sleeved T-shirt ending at the right one.
Step 5: Arms
From each sleeve hem draw a bent arm: the left wrist stops under the shirt, the right one points sideways.
Tip The right fist will grip the rod; the left hand rests on the thigh.
Step 6: Hands
On the left wrist draw a round resting hand with a thumb bump. On the right, a fist pointing out.
Step 7: Knees
Start at the shirt's bottom left. Draw 2 round knees coming toward you, dip between, back to the right corner.
Tip The kid sits on the edge, so the knees point at you.
Step 8: Legs and shoes
From under each knee draw 2 lines down, stopping well above the bottom. Add a shoe under each, toes out.
Tip The legs dangle over the water, the shoes clear of it.
Step 9: Fishing rod and line
From the right fist draw a long rod slanting up right. From its tip, a line down to a bobber.
Tip The rod passes behind the fist. Add a small round reel near the fist.
Step 10: Dock and water
From the left edge draw a flat plank dock under the kid, stopping past the knees. Add wavy water below.
Tip Add a post down from each end of the dock into the water.
Step 11: Peach skin, pink cheeks
Colour the face, neck, ears, arms, hands and legs peach, with pink cheeks.
Tip Keep the eyes white.
Step 12: Yellow shirt, blue water
Colour the T-shirt yellow, the shorts blue, and the water below the wavy line blue.
Step 13: Brown dock, red bobber
Colour the dock, rod and hat brown, and the shoes and the bobber red. Go over your lines.
