How to Draw a Toad

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a toad in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: wide flat head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Wide flat head

Near the top of your paper draw a wide squat head with a flat top and a soft round chin.

Tip Wider than it is tall. The cheeks are the widest part.

  2. Step 2: Bulgy eyes

Draw 2 big flattened circles on the top corners of the head. Colour a wide black slot pupil in each.

Tip Toad pupils lie flat like little slots.

  3. Step 3: Big wide mouth

Start under the left eye. Draw one big wide mouth curling up at the ends, stop under the right eye.

  4. Step 4: Squat tummy

Start under the left cheek. Draw a fat C tummy out, round a flat bottom, stop under the right cheek.

Tip Wider than it is tall, and narrower than the head.

  5. Step 5: Belly patch

Inside the tummy draw one big oval, a finger in from the tummy line all round.

  6. Step 6: Arms and hands

Start under each cheek. Draw an arm bent at the elbow, down to 3 round fingers, back to the chin.

Tip Let the elbow poke out to the side, and keep the wrist thin.

  7. Step 7: Folded back legs

Start halfway down the left arm. Draw a fat bean out for the knee, stop on the hand. Do both.

  8. Step 8: Big webbed feet

Start under each bean. Draw a flat foot out to the side with 3 round toes, back to the bean.

  9. Step 9: The ground

Draw one long straight ground line under the toad, from the left side of the paper to the right.

  10. Step 10: Warts and nostrils

Dot 2 nostrils above the mouth. Then dot 6 little warts: one on each cheek and 2 on each knee.

Tip Keep the warts small and round, and spread them out.

  11. Step 11: Golden eyes, cream tummy

Colour the eyes golden yellow around the black pupils, and the belly patch cream.

  12. Step 12: Colour the toad brown

Go over your lines, then colour the whole toad wood brown, around the golden eyes and the cream belly patch.
