How to Draw a Tin Can Phone
Draw a tin can phone in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the left can.
Step 1: The left can
On the left draw a can lying on its side: a box with a curved end at each side.
Tip Make it a little longer than it is tall.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Right of the can's middle draw 2 big egg eyes, each with a black dot and white shine.
Step 3: A smile
Draw a U smile under the eyes. Start under the left eye and stop under the right eye.
Step 4: The open end
On the can's left end draw a tall thin oval for its open mouth.
Step 5: The label
Draw a curved line down the can on each side of the face, bending like the can's right end.
Tip The label is the wide band between them.
Step 6: The right can
On the right draw the same can the other way round, with its open end on the far right.
Step 7: Second label
Draw 2 curved lines down the right can, from top to bottom, bending like its left end.
Step 8: The string
Start at the middle of the left can's round end. Droop a string down and up to the right can.
Tip A loose string hangs in a soft curve.
Step 9: Ground line
Draw a ground line under the cans. Start near the left edge and stop near the right edge.
Step 10: Sparkles
Draw 3 four-point sparkles above: one over each can and a smaller one in the middle.
Step 11: Yellow sparkles
Go over your lines, then colour the 3 sparkles yellow.
Step 12: Grey cans
Colour the strip at each end of both cans grey. Leave the labels and open ends white.
Step 13: Red labels
Colour both labels red, right up to the curved lines. Leave the eyes white.
Step 14: Dark insides
Colour the open end of each can dark grey, and your tin can phone is done!
