How to Draw a Thermometer

11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a thermometer in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the bulb.

Print

  1. Step 1: The bulb

Low on your paper, in the middle, draw a fat round ball about 3 fingers wide.

  2. Step 2: The tube

Start on the bulb. Draw a tall line straight up, round an upside-down U, and back down to the bulb.

  3. Step 3: Happy face

In the middle of the bulb, draw 2 big round eyes a finger apart. Add a U smile under them.

  4. Step 4: Red column

Start on the bulb. Draw a thin line up inside the tube, past the middle, and back to the bulb.

  5. Step 5: The scale

Down the left edge of the tube, draw 7 short ticks poking in. Stop each one before the column.

  6. Step 6: Rosy cheeks

Draw a tiny oval cheek out beside each end of the smile.

  7. Step 7: Cap and shine

Draw a cap line across the tube's top. From under it on the right, draw a shine line halfway down.

  8. Step 8: Hot sun

In the top right corner, draw a small circle with 8 short rays. It is a hot day!

  9. Step 9: Sun and cheeks

Colour the sun yellow and the 2 cheeks peach.

  10. Step 10: Sky glass

Colour the glass tube light sky blue on both sides of the column.

  11. Step 11: Red mercury

Colour the bulb and the column red, around the cheeks. Leave the eyes white. Your thermometer is done!
