How to Draw a Chain
Draw a chain in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the top link.
Step 1: The top link
Near the top draw a tall oval, 2 fingers wide. Draw a smaller tall oval inside it for the hole.
Tip Each flat link is a thick ring with a tall hole.
Step 2: The wall hook
Above the link draw a small flat plate, and a little loop from it that hooks into the hole.
Step 3: The middle link
Leave a gap a finger wide. Draw a second flat link under the first, the same tall oval and hole.
Step 4: The bottom link
Leave the same gap and draw a third flat link under that, so 3 rings hang in a line.
Step 5: First sideways link
From the top hole, draw a thin tall ring over the top link, under the middle link, into its hole.
Tip Rub out the top link's lines inside the ring. Over one, under the next, so they hook together.
Step 6: Second sideways link
Do the same between the middle and bottom links, over the middle link and under the bottom one.
Step 7: Shines
On the top left of each flat link, draw a thin curved shine between the two ovals.
Step 8: Sparkles
Around the chain draw 4 little sparkles, 2 on each side.
Step 9: Yellow sparkles
Go over your lines, then colour the 4 sparkles yellow.
Step 10: Grey flat links
Colour the 3 flat links grey, leaving their holes and shines white.
Step 11: Dark links and hook
Colour the sideways links, the loop and the plate dark grey, leaving the slots white. Your chain is done!
