How to Draw a Tangram
Draw a tangram in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a big square.
Step 1: A big square
Draw a big square with 4 straight sides, all the same length.
Tip Use a ruler. A tangram is a square cut into 7 pieces.
Step 2: Corner to corner
Start at the top right corner. Draw a straight line and stop at the bottom left corner.
Step 3: A shorter line
Start at the middle of the right side. Draw a straight line and stop at the middle of the bottom.
Tip This line slants the same way as the long one.
Step 4: Through the middle
Start at the top left corner. Draw a straight line through the middle and stop at the shorter line.
Tip Now you can see 2 big triangles and a middle-sized one.
Step 5: The little square
Start at the middle of the right side. Draw a short line up and left. Stop at the long line.
Tip This line slants the same way as your last one.
Step 6: The slanted piece
Start where the line through the middle stopped. Draw a line straight left and stop at the long line.
Tip Count your pieces. There are 7!
Step 7: Yellow and pink
Colour the triangle in the bottom right corner yellow. Colour the small triangle in the top right corner pink.
Step 8: Orange and green
Colour the small triangle in the middle orange. Colour the little square green.
Step 9: Purple piece
Colour the slanted piece along the bottom purple.
Step 10: Red and blue
Go over your lines. Colour the big triangle at the top red and the big one on the left blue.
Tip Cut the pieces out and you can make a cat, a boat or a bird.
