How to Draw a Tamale Plate
Draw a tamale plate in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the first tamale.
Step 1: The first tamale
Across the middle draw a long corn husk, open and wide at the left, pointed at the right.
Tip Like a folded corn leaf, tilting up a little to the right.
Step 2: A second tamale
Lower down draw another husk the other way round, in front of the first. Lift your pencil where they overlap.
Tip Not the same tilt: the front one tips down to the right.
Step 3: The masa
At the open end of each husk draw a short round end of masa poking out.
Step 4: Husk lines
Along each husk draw 2 long lines from near the open end, stopping before the point.
Step 5: A plate
Behind the tamales draw a big flat oval plate, wider than everything. Add a second oval inside for the rim.
Step 6: Steam
Above the tamales draw 2 wiggly steam lines going up.
Step 7: The table
Draw a straight line under the plate, a little wider than it, just touching its bottom.
Step 8: Cream masa
Go over your lines, then colour both ends of masa cream.
Step 9: Tan husks
Colour both husks tan, around the masa.
Step 10: Sky plate
Colour the plate sky blue around the tamales, and your tamales are done!

Your finished drawing
