How to Draw a Morel
Draw a morel in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the cone cap.
Step 1: The cone cap
Left of the middle draw a tall cone cap with a rounded point, tucked in at the bottom.
Tip A morel's cap looks like a honeycomb or a sponge: all pits and ridges.
Step 2: Top pits
Inside the cap draw wobbly pits close together: one near the point, 2 under it, then a row of 3.
Step 3: More pits
Add 2 more rows of 3 pits under them, leaving thin ridges between, like a honeycomb.
Step 4: The stem
Start at the cap's bottom left. Draw a thick stem down, wider at the foot, and up to the right.
Step 5: A tiny morel
Draw a tiny cone cap on the right. Its stem goes from one side down and up to the other.
Step 6: Tiny pits
Draw 3 tiny wobbly pits inside the tiny cap, zigzagging down from the point.
Step 7: The ground
Draw the ground line from well left to well right through the feet of both stems.
Step 8: Grass
Start on the ground and flick 2 grass blades up on the left and one on the right.
Step 9: Cream stems
Go over your lines. Colour both stems cream.
Step 10: Tan caps
Colour both caps tan, around the pits.
Step 11: Brown pits
Colour the big cap's pits dark brown, so the tan ridges between them look like a honeycomb.
Step 12: Tiny brown pits
Colour the tiny cap's pits dark brown too, and your morels are done!
