How to Draw a Tailor

16 steps · Tricky · about 12 min

Draw a tailor in 16 steps, about 12 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top of your paper draw an egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin.

Tip Draw the head left of the middle: the dress dummy stands on the right.

  2. Step 2: Two ears

Draw a C ear on each side of the head, starting and stopping on the head line.

  3. Step 3: Face and moustache

Draw 2 oval eyes with a dot and a shine, a small nose, a smile and a bow moustache.

  4. Step 4: Curly hair

Start above the left ear. Draw round tufts over the head, stopping above the right ear. Add a curly fringe.

  5. Step 5: Neck and shirt

Draw 2 neck lines, then a shirt with round shoulders from the left line, ending at the right one.

  6. Step 6: Waistcoat

Over the shirt draw a V-neck waistcoat from the shoulders to the hem, with 2 buttons.

  7. Step 7: Tape measure

Hang a tape measure round the neck: 2 long strips down the waistcoat, with tiny ticks.

  8. Step 8: Long sleeves

Draw a long sleeve over each shoulder curve down to a cuff, the left one bent at a round elbow.

Tip Rub out the shoulder curves inside the sleeves.

  9. Step 9: Hands

On the left wrist draw a fat egg fist with a thumb bump, and a hanging hand on the right.

  10. Step 10: Scissors

In the left fist draw scissors pointing up: 2 short blades crossing in an X, and 2 small loops below.

  11. Step 11: Dress dummy

On the right draw a headless dummy body. From its bottom draw a pole down to a flat oval base.

  12. Step 12: Trousers

Start at the waistcoat's bottom left corner. Draw 2 trouser legs down, stopping at its right corner.

  13. Step 13: Shoes and ground

Under each trouser leg draw a shoe with the toe pointing out, then a long ground line under them.

  14. Step 14: Peach skin, pink cheeks

Dab 2 pink cheeks. Colour the face, ears, neck and hands peach around them. Leave the eyes white.

  15. Step 15: Yellow tape, grey dummy

Colour the tape measure yellow and the dummy grey. Leave the shirt white.

  16. Step 16: Green waistcoat, brown trousers

Colour the waistcoat green around the tape, fist and scissors. Colour the hair, trousers, shoes, pole and base brown.
